I've been a bit quiet lately, and I wanted to share what's been going on behind the scenes at Warrior Two Yoga. So, earlier this year, I was faced with a significant knee injury from a skiing accident - I had torn my ACL, my MCL and both the medial and lateral meniscus!  During the long road to rehabilitation (it’s still going!) what I noticed was that it wasn't just about my knee - my entire body was impacted by this injury.   Other parts of my body responded with tension, and my overall alignment seemed to shift.

This got me on a mission to not only fix my knee but to understand how one part of the body could influence the entire system.  And that’s when I came across Tom Myers and his fascinating work on Anatomy Trains and Myofascial Meridians.  Since then, I’ve been immersing myself in learning how to rebuild the body through myfascial work and incorporating this new knowledge into each of my regular yoga classes.  But now, I'm thrilled to introduce a dedicated Roll and Release Yoga Class on the Warrior Two schedule for those students seeking that extra layer of fascia release - like your own personal self massage.

Our new Roll and Release class is a dynamic fusion of myofascial release techniques - using massage balls and blocks - to target specific areas of tension in your body and releasing knots and complemented with long hold yin yoga stretches.

What are the benefits of doing myofascial release?

Self-myofascial massage helps ease muscle tension, knots, and trigger points by focusing on the myofascia—a web of connective tissue surrounding muscles all over the body. When muscles get stuck with tension, they can't move and stretch properly, and because the myofascia is all connected, it can cause imbalances and compensations in other parts of the body. If the fascia gets tight due to too much use, stress, or lack of movement, it can lead to muscle pain, tension, and poor blood flow.

These massage techniques do more than just press on annoying knots; they gently stretch tiny areas of myofascia that might be stuck due to things like injury, not using them enough, poor nutrition, or scars. This helps the tissues in a way that regular yoga or stretching can't quite reach.

Do I need any yoga experience to do this class?

Whether you're an experienced yogi or a beginner stepping into a yoga studio for the first time, this class is for you. It's for athletes seeking deep muscle release and for anyone yearning to feel more energetic, flexible, and free from the burdens of physical and emotional tension.  You do not need any prior yoga experience for this class.

What do I need to bring?

All you need to bring is a yoga mat and a water bottle.  In our intimate, small-sized classes, we provide all the necessary equipment – including massage balls, blocks and bolsters – to facilitate a personalised experience for each participant.  For this reason our class size is strictly limited and bookings are essential.
